I remember this trip to Chantilly with Harry and our dad. For three days we laughed non-stop. Every Chapman family trip abroad required a cathedral visit and Nimes duly obliged. Later that evening I went to some bars by the waterfront with Harry and we found it hilarious as the bar staff ignored the two Englishmen completely until he eventually asked a girl whether we were allowed to get served.
Harry used to tease me about dressing scruffily but I assured him that I had respectable clothes for our visit to Chantilly races. I turned up with an ironed shirt and trousers with holes but, of course, Harry was there in a resplendent blue jacket, looking infinitely smarter than anyone. He gave me his superb, knowing look with his head a little tilted and his eyebrows raised, and I could only laugh.
Every holiday, family meal, walk in the park, trip to the pub, game of football was such a pleasure when Harry was there.
Much love,
Jack
