I have so many lovely memories of Harry from the ten years I have gotten to know him. Adeline and Harry were very close, as all the Chapmans are. As Adeline’s partner, this meant I was lucky enough to get to know him well. I remember the many chatty afternoons Harry spent hanging out at ours in the first few years of knowing him. Or we would meet in parks, pubs and for family fun in Highgate. After he met his amazing wife, Flavia, Adeline and I often had dinners, walks and weekends away with the two of them and Zeno.
Harry always put in a lot of time and effort for the people around him. One personal memory that stands out for me is when Harry was working for the Green Party in 2007. My parents were visiting from Norway, and Harry offered to take us on a tour of the Houses of Parliament, where he had a work pass and could get in.
I am not sure Harry’s pass really was meant for giving visitors a tour of the inner life of Parliament, but somehow we got through. I remember he eagerly invited us in, and we went further and further, through narrow corridors, and into the depths of the building. My parents were thrilled to see this famous institution from inside. In the end we popped up in the riverside canteen where well known politicians were having their lunch. The visit culminated with my dad nearly being wrestled to the ground by guards, when he decided to unzip his rucksack to find his camera. No doubt, we relied on Harry’s charm to get us out of this awkward situation.
For me, that afternoon is just one of so many examples of Harry‘s kindness and generosity. He was always there for the people around him and would go the extra mile for friends and family in so many, many ways.
I will always remember Harry with love and great fondness.
